According to a new report, Hong Kong has surpassed Switzerland to become the world's leading center for cross-border wealth management. According to Boston Consulting Group's assessment, assets under management in the city increased by 10.7% in 2025, reaching $2.95 trillion. The increase was driven by capital inflows from mainland China, a strong new IPO market, and gains in stock markets. Hong Kong's financial secretary Paul Chan Mo-po stated that China's 15th Five-Year Plan clearly supports the city's position as an international asset and wealth management center. The report also noted that the number of family offices operating in the city has rapidly increased, exceeding 3,380 by the end of 2025. This figure indicates an increase of more than 25% in two years. Additionally, officials recorded approximately 3,600 applications under the New Capital Investment Immigration Program by the end of April. This program is expected to attract investments of about $108 billion. According to the report, the annual average growth of assets under management in Hong Kong is projected at 9%, reaching $4.6 trillion by 2030. With the growth of the wealth base in Asia, the gap between Hong Kong and Switzerland is expected to reach approximately $600 billion by the end of the decade.
