Yemen's Houthis launched a missile and drone attack on Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Jet fuel facilities at King Khalid International Airport were hit in the wave of attacks.
King Khalid International Airport targeted
Explosions were heard across Riyadh after an air raid alert was issued overnight. Jet fuel facilities at King Khalid International Airport were targeted in the attack.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing three officials familiar with the incident, that the attack hit the airport's jet fuel facilities.
Footage released by Reuters after the attack also showed thick black smoke rising from the fuel storage area at King Khalid International Airport.
Houthis claim responsibility for the attack
Yahya Saree, the Houthis' military spokesman, announced that they had carried out two separate military operations against Saudi Arabia.
Saree said that numerous ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones had been used to attack “sensitive targets” in Riyadh.

The Houthis also said that Aramco facilities in Yanbu, one of Saudi Arabia's major oil centers on the Red Sea coast, had been targeted as part of the same operation.
Air raid alert issued in Riyadh
Before the attack, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense sent warnings to residents' phones in Riyadh and the Al-Kharj area about a possible air raid threat.
As explosions were heard in the capital, flames and thick black smoke rose from the area around King Khalid International Airport.

Saudi authorities later announced that the danger in Riyadh had passed.
The attack was one of the most notable strikes directly targeting Riyadh amid the recent renewed escalation of tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
