Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, accompanied by AK Party Van MP Kayhan Türkmenoğlu, Gendarmerie General Commander General Ali Çardakcı and Hakkari Governor İbrahim Taşyapan, conducted inspections at the Zirvin Base Area in the Şemdinli district as part of his Hakkari program.
At the base area, located 7.5 kilometers from the Iranian border and 28 kilometers from the Iraqi border, Minister Çiftçi met with heroic Mehmetçiks and gendarmerie personnel, and highlighted the vital importance of border security and the selfless vigilance for Turkey's peace.
"IF WE CAN LIVE IN PEACE IN OUR CITIES, THE GREATEST ARCHITECTS ARE OUR HEROES HERE" — starting his speech by emphasizing the geopolitical and strategic position of Zirvin Base Area, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said, "This is an extremely strategic base. Just a little further, 7.5 kilometers away is Iran, and 28 kilometers to the Iraqi border.
Thanks to the watch kept by our heroic Mehmetçiks, gendarmerie and village guards, if we can comfortably live in our cities and carry on our daily lives in peace, the greatest architects of that are our heroic soldiers and gendarmerie serving here," he said.
Minister Çiftçi, on this occasion, commemorated with mercy all martyrs who drank the sherbet of martyrdom in defense of the homeland and wished veterans a blessed and long life. "THE THIRD SECURITY LAYER OF THE NATO SUMMIT WAS THIS BORDER REGION" Explaining that the security of the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit held recently in Ankara was not limited to Ankara but managed with a broad strategy including border lines, Minister Çiftçi said, "As you know, a few days ago, during the NATO Summit held on July 7-8, we took a three-layered security measure.
The provinces around Ankara formed the first layer, the provinces surrounding those formed the second security zone; together with our port provinces, our border provinces constituted the third layer. Thus, the location we are currently at is one of those border provinces in this third layer. Thanks to the heroic service of our gendarmerie here, the NATO summit in Ankara was concluded smoothly and without incident.
"For this reason, I thank each and every one of our gendarmerie personnel, soldiers, police officers and security guards separately," he said.
"IN ŞEMDİNLİ, TERRORISTS ARE NO LONGER BEING PURSUED; PUBLIC ORDER IS NOW MONITORED" — stating that the peace achieved in the region is the most concrete example of the "Terror-Free Turkey" vision, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said, "This region also forms the basis of our 'Terror-Free Turkey' implementation.
Thanks to the determined service of our gendarmerie here, terrorists are no longer being chased or tracked as in the past; in Şemdinli specifically, and in our border regions, public order incidents and border security are now more prominently monitored. Under the leadership of our esteemed President, God willing, the 'Terror-Free Turkey' project has come to life, will continue and succeed; I have not the slightest doubt about that.
" he said. Concluding his visit by wishing success and praying for the personnel at the base area, Minister Çiftçi ended his speech by saying, "I pray to Almighty God that our visit today brings blessings, and I wish great success to all our personnel serving here. May God keep our state and nation eternal."
