Fighting resumes in the region
Tensions in the region escalated after a US attack on Larak Island on Sunday. The attack ended a pause of about one month in the fighting in the region.
Washington announced that the attack targeted two Iranian launchers preparing to deploy rockets and a naval mine.
Following the attack, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. US Central Command also carried out new airstrikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets inside Iran on Tuesday night.
Dispute over the Strait of Hormuz
The renewed fighting followed the failure to implement the June 18 memorandum of understanding, which aimed to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Fighting resumed in July because of disagreements over its implementation.
