Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi received Turkey's Ambassador to Baghdad Anıl Bora İnan and a group of Turkish businesspeople under the Turkish Business Council on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's press office, al-Zaydi instructed to facilitate visa procedures for Turkish businesspeople and provide other facilities to sustain investment activity in Iraq.
During the meeting, al-Zaydi highlighted the importance of economic and investment relations between Iraq and Turkey, noting many investment opportunities for Turkish companies, including the Development Road project, hospital and airport management, and energy and water management projects.
Ambassador İnan reaffirmed the Turkish government's determination to develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all areas. The Turkish businesspeople also expressed their readiness to start investment projects in Iraq.
In October 2025, Turkish-Iraq Business Council Chairman Halit Acar said the Development Road project would give great momentum to trade between the two countries.
The Development Road is a land and railway project extending 1,200 kilometers inside Iraq, connecting Iraq to Turkey and its ports, aiming to transport goods between Europe and Gulf countries. This project stands out as one of the most important commercial link routes between the Persian Gulf and Europe.
