The Istanbul Governorship announced the results of samples taken on September 4 from 15 beaches heavily used by the public across the city. The governorship said samples taken from three areas did not meet public health standards.
The non-compliant results were found in samples taken from the areas in front of International Hospital in Bakırköy-Yeşilköy, in front of the Bakırköy-Yeşilköy Police Center and at Sarıyer-Gümüşdere Beach.
The governorship requested that official notifications be sent to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the relevant institutions to investigate and address possible sources of pollution. It also instructed the relevant district municipalities to temporarily close the swimming areas, inform the public through signs, posters and announcements, and take the necessary measures.
