Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport set a new daily record for flights and passenger numbers on August 9, handling 935 flights and 179,789 passengers.
International flights accounted for 56.5% of the flights on the record-breaking day, while domestic flights made up 43.5%. International routes accounted for 56% of passenger traffic, compared with 44% for domestic routes.
Arriving passengers accounted for 50.4% of total traffic, while departing passengers represented 49.6%. This enabled the airport to manage the operational intensity in a balanced manner in both directions.
HEAŞ and ISG coordinated operations
The heavy flight and passenger traffic throughout the day was managed through coordination between the Airport Authority (HEAŞ) and terminal operator Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (ISG).
HEAŞ teams handled air traffic, apron, runway and airport operations, while ISG teams simultaneously managed passenger flow, security, cleaning, wayfinding and passenger experience processes in the terminal.
Coordinated management of airport and terminal operations maintained operational continuity despite the high volume of traffic. Passengers completed their journeys safely, smoothly and comfortably.
Previous record surpassed within a week
HEAŞ Director General Faruk Kacır said the new record demonstrated the airport's operational capacity, service quality and the confidence placed in it by passengers.
Kacır said Sabiha Gökçen was increasing its contribution to Türkiye's transport infrastructure and tourism, adding that they would continue advancing the airport through an approach focused on uninterrupted and safe operations.
The airport had previously set a daily record on August 2, 2026, with 919 flights and 174,325 passengers. With the latest figures, the number of flights rose to 935 and the number of passengers to 179,789.
