Manchester City's Jamaican forward Khadija Shaw announced that she will stay at the Women’s Super League (WSL) champion club and signed a new contract lasting until 2030. This decision came after expectations that Shaw would leave the club following unsuccessful contract renewal negotiations. Shaw became the top scorer of the WSL for the third consecutive season and played a major role in City winning the championship for the first time since 2016 by scoring 21 goals in 22 matches. There were reports that Chelsea was ready to add Shaw, who was a free agent, to their squad. However, Shaw stated on stage during the end-of-season celebrations, "I'm still here, I'm still hungry, and there is no other place I want to be." This season, she also won the Football Writers’ Association women's footballer award and the WSL player of the season title. City will face Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday and aims to finish the season with a double trophy. Shaw played 31 matches in all tournaments this season, scoring 26 goals and providing 7 assists. Since joining City in 2021, she has scored 117 goals in 137 matches, making her the club's top scorer. The club's football director Therese Sjogran said, "Securing the services of one of the world's best strikers is a big message for City."
