The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) published life tables statistics for the 2023–2025 period. According to the data, life expectancy at birth across Türkiye was calculated at 78.5 years. This figure stood at 78.1 years in the previous 2022–2024 period.
The difference between women and men was notable. Life expectancy at birth was recorded at 75.9 years for men and 81.1 years for women. Women were found to live an average of 5.2 years longer than men.
Remaining life expectancy by age
The average remaining life expectancy for 15-year-olds, considered to be the beginning of working age, was determined as 64.7 years. This figure was 62.1 years for men and 67.3 years for women.
For a 30-year-old, average remaining life expectancy was 50.3 years, calculated at 47.8 years for men and 52.7 years for women. At age 50, average remaining life expectancy was 31.3 years, compared with 29 years for men and 33.4 years for women.
Remaining life expectancy for a 65-year-old was recorded at an average of 18.4 years. At this age, men are expected to live for another 16.7 years, while women are expected to live for another 20 years. Women were found to have a life expectancy 3.3 years longer than men even at age 65.
Life expectancy increases with education level
There is a direct relationship between education level and life expectancy. TurkStat data showed that life expectancy increases at every age as education level rises. While people with lower levels of education had shorter life expectancies, a marked increase was recorded among higher education graduates.
For example, among 30-year-old men, the difference in life expectancy between those with less than secondary education and those with higher education reached 5.1 years. Among women of the same age, the difference was calculated at 4.6 years.
Healthy life expectancy is 58 years
Healthy life expectancy, defined as the period a person is expected to live without a health problem restricting daily activities, was announced as 58 years at birth. This figure was calculated at 59.1 years for men and 56.9 years for women. Thus, men's healthy life expectancy was found to be 2.2 years longer than women's.
