French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the international naval task force established by France and Britain is ready to accompany the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement came after a ceasefire agreement was announced between the US and Iran.
In a post on social media, Macron stated that the resources are ready and highlighted the urgent and unconditional importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The French leader said that resuming maritime traffic without any restrictions or transit fees is a fundamental condition for regional stability and the global economy.
Task force has been in discussion for months
Last month, France and the United Kingdom, along with other countries, proposed an international task force to clear mines and ensure security in this strategic passage. The plan was expected to be implemented following an agreement between the US and Iran.
During the same period, US President Donald Trump also announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been reopened and that Washington would lift its naval blockade against Iran. This statement followed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran.
The Strait of Hormuz holds critical importance for global energy and trade transportation. The normalization of passage in the region is closely monitored not only militarily but also economically.
The naval mission announced by Paris and London aims to provide mine clearance and maritime security support if the strait is safely reopened.
