The data from the May consumer confidence index, announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), reveals a complex picture of the economy. While the index showed a limited monthly increase of 0.3%, the divergent movements in sub-indices are noteworthy. Particularly, the index reflecting households' current financial situation sharply declined by 3.5% in May, dropping from 71.8 to 69.2. This indicates that consumers are experiencing a significant contraction in current market conditions and living standards. On the other hand, there is a positive outlook regarding expectations for the next 12 months.

Household financial expectations slightly increased from 87.5 in April to 87.9. The general economic situation expectation rose by 3.9% from 78.3 to 81.4. These figures show that despite current difficulties, consumers remain hopeful about the future.
