About 50 ships set out from the port of Marmaris in southwestern Turkey to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. According to Gorkem Duru from the Turkey branch of the Global Sumud Lifeboat, who provided information to AFP, the ships will join four or five vessels affiliated with the Freedom Lifeboat Coalition in international waters and proceed towards Gaza. This initiative is recorded as the third attempt within a year to alleviate the severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel following the Israel-Hamas conflict that began in October 2023. Previous lifeboats were blocked by Israeli forces, especially on April 30 off the coast of Greece, with the majority of activists sent to Europe and two individuals detained for 10 days. Human rights organizations claimed these detentions were unlawful and that the detainees were mistreated, while Israeli authorities denied these allegations but did not press any charges.
