Visiting the Lyon Fenerbahçe Supporters’ Association, Mert Nobre said Fenerbahçe, who will face Olympique Lyonnais away in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff round, have a major advantage in the tie.
Stating that Fenerbahçe will play an important match, Nobre said he believes the yellow-and-navy side will win and qualify for the UEFA Champions League after a long absence.
I am looking at things positively today. I believe we will win and qualify for the Champions League after a long time. Fenerbahçe is a huge community and cannot stay this far from the UEFA Champions League.
Nobre noted that Fenerbahçe’s experienced players would have an advantage against a young opponent. Saying this experience would be important in the match, Nobre expressed his hope that everyone would be happy after the game.
Nobre assesses the foreign-player rule
Highlighting the importance of Fenerbahçe’s targets of winning the title and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, Nobre also assessed the Turkish Football Federation’s foreign-player rule.
Nobre said changing the rules every year makes it difficult for clubs to adapt. He said it would be better to establish the foreign-player rule and keep it in effect for at least five years.
Speaking about his career plans, Nobre said he had previously coached five or six teams and announced that he wants to return to coaching and get back on the field.
Thanks to the Lyon Fenerbahçe Supporters’ Association
Nobre expressed his satisfaction with the event organized at the association’s invitation. Congratulating Association President Yılmaz Özcan, Nobre said Fenerbahçe supporters are a large community and thanked them for the event.
Yılmaz Özcan also thanked Nobre for visiting the association and not leaving them alone. Özcan said he hoped Nobre would bring good luck to the team and that he believed Fenerbahçe could eliminate Olympique Lyonnais.
