Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar shared Turkey's energy goals and recent developments at the Central Anatolia Regional Strategy Meeting held in Kayseri. Bayraktar stated that especially with the evaluation of natural gas resources in the Black Sea, it is targeted to meet the natural gas needs of 16-17 million households by 2028.
The minister emphasized that Turkey has taken important steps to reduce its external dependency in the energy sector and has become the fourth largest country in the world in the deep-sea drilling fleet. He stated that approximately 96.5 billion dollars were spent on energy imports in 2022, and this figure decreased to the range of 60-70 billion dollars in 2023-2024. Bayraktar said that despite global energy crises and uncertainties in the markets, Turkey continues its strategy to increase domestic resources.
Additionally, the minister noted that support implementations for natural gas started as of April, stating that high consumers should bear more costs, but social support mechanisms continue. Bayraktar expressed that Turkey's oil and natural gas exploration activities are not limited to the Black Sea but have also spread abroad, and determination in this field continues.
Finally, Minister Bayraktar stated that increasing domestic resources in energy production will enhance Turkey's economic and strategic power, and that work in the energy sector will continue uninterrupted.
