Cheng Li-wun, leader of Taiwan's main opposition party Kuomintang (KMT), made a six-day visit to mainland China. During the visit, Cheng met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and described the visit as a "peace journey." Xi Jinping stated in the meeting that they would never accept Taiwan's independence and emphasized that Taiwan should reunite with China. Cheng expressed that the Taiwan Strait should not be a conflict zone and warned against foreign interventions. These statements came at a time when the opposition in Taiwan blocked a proposal to increase military spending. Cheng stated that humanity should use technology for peace and the protection of ecosystems. The visit is considered an important development in Taiwan-China relations.
