Türkiye's first offshore wind Renewable Energy Resource Zones (YEKA) tender is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Minister Bayraktar announced that the tender notice will be issued in September.
Four offshore sites identified
Four separate sites have been identified for offshore wind energy in the Saros Gulf and off Gökçeada, Bozcaada and Edremit. Work is continuing to designate these areas as YEKA sites based on offshore wind energy.
The draft specifications prepared for the offshore YEKA tender have been opened for review by industry representatives, investors and relevant organizations. Feedback will be collected until August 17, after which the final specifications will be prepared.
5,000-megawatt target for 2035
Minister Bayraktar said Türkiye would deliver a message to the world on offshore wind energy ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP31, which will be held in Antalya. He said Türkiye's first offshore wind YEKA would be announced to the public before the conference takes place in November.
Bayraktar announced that the tender to be held in the first quarter of 2027 would be a first for the energy sector and that Türkiye's 2035 offshore wind target was a capacity of 5,000 megawatts.
Bayraktar said they did not view offshore wind solely as a new energy source, adding that they aimed for the sector to contribute to security of supply, support domestic industry and increase qualified employment.
