According to data from the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, Kocaeli continues to be the main logistics hub not only for automotive production but also for vehicle exports and imports by sea.
In the January-June period, a total of 911,843 cars and other vehicles were handled on international routes across Turkey. Of these, 661,107 were processed at Kocaeli ports. Thus, 72.5% of the country's seaborne vehicle transport took place at facilities in Kocaeli.

Significant changes occurred in Kocaeli's regular international Ro-Ro network in the first half of the year. While transport on the Koper and Antwerp routes ceased, new regular Ro-Ro services were launched to Italy's Gioia Tauro and Monfalcone ports and Morocco's Casablanca Port.
The number of vehicles transported on the new routes is as follows: Gioia Tauro 527, Monfalcone 413, Spain's Valencia Port 208, and Casablanca 222. All vehicles transported on the Casablanca route were outbound cargo.
In addition to its strong performance in international vehicle logistics, Kocaeli also ranked among Turkey's leading centers in overall port activities. In the first half of the year, 4,205 ships called at ports around the Gulf of İzmit. During the same period, a total of 42,176,756 tons of cargo were handled at the city's ports, and the container volume processed was recorded as 1,271,497 TEU.
