Minister Gürlek announced that legal proceedings had been initiated against 2,447 suspects in the Safe Streets operations launched on the morning of September 14. The operations were conducted nationwide against street gangs and new-generation criminal organizations following the start of the new academic year.
In a statement on his NSosyal account, Gürlek said the operations were carried out as part of investigations led by 78 Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices. In 148 simultaneous operations involving police and gendarmerie units, criminal networks linked to drugs, robbery, arms trafficking, blackmail, money laundering and illegal betting were targeted.
Gürlek said the operations were not limited to apprehending suspects, adding that the campaign focused on the human resources, financing, connections, logistical capabilities and capacity to generate crime of criminal organizations.

Gürlek announced that the goal was to dismantle organizations seeking to influence young people through social media and portray crime as a source of power or status.
Congratulating the security forces involved in the operations, Gürlek said the streets would not be left to criminal organizations and that children and young people would not be allowed to become a source of recruits for such structures. He said the campaign would continue through coordination among the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices, police, gendarmerie and relevant institutions.
