Minister Kurum spoke at the Hatay Housing Allocation Draw and Antakya Arasta Bazaar Key Handover Ceremony held at the Atatürk Conference Hall of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University. During the ceremony, a draw was held to allocate the social homes to their beneficiaries, while the keys to workplaces at Arasta Bazaar were handed over to tradespeople.
Draw held for 8,500 homes
Kurum said the beneficiaries of 8,500 social homes in Hatay had been determined so that families could move into safe homes under suitable conditions following the earthquake, and that the draw had clarified which homes the families would move into. The homes are planned to be delivered in October this year.
Kurum said the homes would provide more than 40,000 people with safer places to live and added that the project would help meet the housing needs of low-income residents in Hatay.
Emphasis on 155,000 homes in Hatay
Kurum said three and a half years had passed since the earthquakes and that work had continued around the clock, seven days a week. He said pain had given way to hope in Hatay, while the rubble had been replaced by 155,000 sturdy homes, adding that areas and structures including İskenderun Coastal Road, Uzun Bazaar, Kurtuluş Avenue, the Habib-i Neccar Mosque and the historic Parliament building had been brought back to life.
Kurum said 455,000 homes had so far been delivered in the earthquake zone and noted that approximately 11,000 kilometers of infrastructure had also been rebuilt across 11 provinces. He said state institutions were working to help the region recover following the earthquake.
Keys handed over at Arasta Bazaar
Kurum announced that more than 11,000 shops had been brought to Hatay through TOKİ and that the investment value of the completed commercial center in the Arasta area of Antakya was approximately 3.5 billion lira. As part of the ceremony, the keys to workplaces were handed over to some tradespeople.
A live connection was made to Saraycık neighborhood, where Arasta Bazaar is located, during the ceremony, and the housing draw was held with the participation of beneficiary families. Kurum said they expected the project to help lower rental prices in Hatay.
Message on a terror-free Türkiye
In his speech, Kurum said that power balances were being reshaped under the shadow of regional conflicts and also addressed the goal of a terror-free Türkiye. He argued that this goal was a strategic state policy in terms of Türkiye’s security, social peace and shared future, adding that Türkiye would continue on its path with greater strength once the process was completed.
Kurum said the work being carried out in the earthquake zone showed that the commitments made were being honored and stated that the reconstruction process in Hatay would continue.
