MIT chief Kalin and EYP chief Demiris met in Athens, the capital of Greece, last week. They discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, while also evaluating steps that could be taken to resolve outstanding issues.
Areas of cooperation discussed
The two sides emphasized the critical importance of relations between the two countries in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, NATO security, intelligence cooperation, counterterrorism, combating organized crime, irregular migration and the fight against human smuggling.
The meeting also addressed the US-Iran war, the new period in Syria, Libya's political unity, the Palestinian issue, and Israel's violations and occupation policies in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel's attacks on Syria and Lebanon were also among the issues discussed.
Combating terrorism and organized crime
The two sides reached a joint understanding that the recent momentum in combating terrorist and organized crime groups should be sustained and strengthened, and that cooperation should be elevated to a strategic level.
Kalin and Demiris agreed to further strengthen close cooperation between the intelligence services on bilateral and regional issues.
