Following the successful completion of NASA's Artemis II mission, the agency is accelerating plans to establish a permanent base on the Moon. This base, planned to be built at the Moon's south pole in 2028, aims to make human presence on the Moon continuous by using nuclear energy. In the next phases of the Artemis program, landings on the lunar surface will be carried out with Artemis III, IV, and V missions, which will create infrastructure for base construction. NASA plans regular exploration and logistical support missions on the Moon by collaborating with private companies and international agencies in this project. While a new race in space exploration is noted to have begun, the Moon's south pole holds strategic importance for the base due to its resource richness, such as water ice. NASA's plans aim to transform the Moon from a place visited temporarily into a center where humanity is permanently settled.
