Firefighting efforts against forest fires continue in Greece. As a new fire broke out in the Koropi area near the capital Athens, the battle against flames at various points across the country entered its sixth day.
New fire in Koropi
Fifty-two firefighters, three ground teams and 14 fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze that started in low vegetation near the industrial zone in Koropi.
Two firefighting planes and four helicopters are involved in aerial firefighting efforts. The Koropi Municipality also sent water tankers to the area.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Greece sent an alert message via the emergency warning system 112 to residents in the area, urging them to be cautious due to the risk of the fire spreading.
An arson investigation unit has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire.

Major fire enters sixth day
Meanwhile, efforts to extinguish the large forest fire that started last week in the Boeotia region and spread to the western part of Attica are continuing for the sixth day.
According to data from the Copernicus satellite system, the fire has burned approximately 14,400 hectares of land so far. During firefighting operations, two firefighting helicopters collided in mid-air; a Danish pilot and a Greek air coordinator lost their lives in the accident.
While the fires are largely under control, the fire danger level remains high in many parts of the country due to expected high temperatures and strong winds.
