It was reported that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested some records related to the delegates who voted at CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress and their first-degree relatives. The requested documents include MASAK reports, bank account transactions, and SGK records.
The new request shows that the congress issue in CHP is not limited only to the past 38th Ordinary Congress debate but has also moved to a new legal and political line through the delegates today.
In another development that emerged on the same day, it was conveyed that the signature collection process for an extraordinary congress in CHP has started; the first signature came from Kayseri, followed by delegates in Rize joining the process. It was also stated that Özgür Özel said the required number of signatures for the extraordinary congress is slightly over 550.
Therefore, the record request directed at the delegates is read together with the reactivated extraordinary congress signature process in the party. On one side, debates about the 38th Ordinary Congress, and on the other, the search for delegate support for a new congress call converge on the same line in the CHP agenda.
The CHP bylaws require a certain number of delegate support and procedural conditions for calling an extraordinary congress. Both the delegates' votes in the previous congress and their positions in the new signature process have become critical topics in terms of internal party balances.
How the record request in the investigation line will conclude is closely related to the political impact of the ongoing signature traffic for the extraordinary congress. As the process progresses, the legal dimension of the congress debate and the internal power balances in CHP will become more visible.
