Police launched an investigation after emails containing threats against Muslims were sent to nine schools affiliated with the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC).
The message, signed "Citizen Vigilante," said Muslims would be killed and that Canada would be "cleansed" of Islam.
MAC spokesperson Nabil Sultan said the same anonymous email was sent to schools in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec within 24 hours. Private security guards were hired to protect students following the threats.
Police units in the provinces said hate-crime teams were investigating the incident. Ontario police said they were aware of the hate-motivated threatening email targeting Islamic institutions and had increased patrols around mosques and schools.

Ottawa police also said the number of officers had been increased in areas that received the threatening messages, but that there had so far been no sign of a "specific or imminent threat."
Canadian Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangari said every child has the right to study in a safe environment and that every family should feel safe sending their child to school. Anandasangari said the threats were unacceptable.
According to Statistics Canada data, the number of anti-Muslim hate crimes reported to police in the country increased by more than 170 percent between 2020 and 2024.
