The İHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation will distribute school supply kits to 10,000 orphaned and disadvantaged children in 21 countries, including Türkiye, as the new school year begins.
Prepared with support from donors, each kit will be worth 1,500 lira. The school bags will contain notebooks, a pencil case, pencils, ballpoint pens, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a ruler set, colored pencils and other stationery supplies that students will need throughout the school year.
Orphaned and disadvantaged children to receive priority
The aid is planned to reach children living in orphanages, orphans supported by the foundation while living with their families, and disadvantaged people living in areas affected by various natural disasters.
Reşat Başer, deputy chairman of the İHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, said that their education support efforts prioritize children in Türkiye as well as those living in regions where conflicts have created difficult conditions. Başer said school supplies are among the most basic and urgent needs for access to education.
Başer said children in areas such as Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh, Bangsamoro, Niger and Sudan are struggling to survive under harsh conditions. He said the foundation aims to help prepare children for life through education assistance and contribute to laying the foundations for a future shaped by kindness and solidarity.
The scope of aid may be expanded
The school kits are planned to reach disadvantaged children in Türkiye as well as Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Philippines, Montenegro, Lebanon, Mali, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, the Patani region, Togo, Tunisia, Sierra Leone and Nepal.
Although the aid is expected to go primarily to orphaned children, the foundation aims to increase the number of children reached to as many as 30,000 if the level of support rises.
