Speaker of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş visited the Central Mosque in the capital Lisbon as part of his official visit to Portugal and met with representatives of the Muslim community.
Speaking during the visit, Kurtulmuş thanked his hosts for their interest and hospitality. He said he was surprised to see a mosque of this size in Lisbon and noted that the mosque represented an important opportunity for Muslims living in the city and in Portugal.
Kurtulmuş said Muslims living in Western countries had become an integral part of the societies in which they lived. He added that he was pleased to see that Portugal’s Muslim community was well integrated into society.
Kurtulmuş said increasing cooperation among Muslim communities in Europe should be a shared responsibility. He said the expression “Allahu Akbar,” used by Muslims in Portugal, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and across Europe, reflected not only a turning toward worship but also unity in thought and shared feelings.
Numan Kurtulmuş arrived in Lisbon on Sunday for the official visit, accompanied by several members of Türkiye’s Parliament.
