Police seize 2,000-year-old marble head of Zeus in Türkiye's Izmir
Police in Izmir seized a marble head of Zeus believed to be about 2,000 years old and dating to the Roman period during an operation against antiquities smuggling in the Konak district. Three suspects were detained.
A marble head of Zeus believed to be about 2,000 years old and dating to the Roman period has been seized in an operation against antiquities smuggling in Izmir, western Türkiye.
Anti-smuggling and intelligence teams from the Izmir Police Department, working under the coordination of the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, raided an address in the Konak district.
Three suspects detained
The marble head of Zeus was found during a search of the address, and three suspects were detained. Legal proceedings against the suspects are continuing.
