Rami Library has accelerated its efforts to preserve and make cultural heritage accessible with the Non-Book Materials and Digital Library Unit it established. The unit safeguards a wide variety of historical materials, including film posters, lobby cards, postcards, photo albums, vinyl records, maps, slide positives, and coin and stamp collections.

Meticulous restoration and high technology
The digitization process begins with the classification of the works. Worn or damaged materials are restored by expert staff in coordination with the "Book Hospital." Special tables, Japanese papers, book presses, and delicate conservation materials are used in the restoration to preserve the original structure of the works.
Then, high-resolution robotic scanners, overhead scanners, flatbed scanners, and map scanners come into play. The digital copies are cataloged in the "KAŞİF" automation system, uploaded to the National Digital Library platform, and made accessible to all researchers.

Academic collaborations and rare collections
The library also stands out with its collaborations with universities and civil society organizations. Newspaper clippings, manuscripts, letters, photographs, and posters from the Hakkı Tarık Us Collection are being classified, restored, and digitized with the contribution of faculty members from Istanbul University's Turkish Language and Literature and History departments.
The unit is also carrying out the cataloging and digitization of the Uyghur book collection created under a protocol signed with the Uyghur Science and Civilization Research Foundation. Additionally, a special collection of 19th-century Armenian works from the Beyazıt State Library collection is being transferred to digital media.
Barrier-free access and social contribution
In addition to preserving historical heritage, the Non-Book Materials and Digital Library Unit also serves social equality. At the request of the Barrier-Free Information Center, printed works are digitized without commercial purpose in accordance with Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works, contributing to access to information for visually impaired individuals.
Rami Library continues its mission as a living cultural center that both preserves historical resources and brings them together with all segments of society.
