Remarks by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo about Argentina's Lionel Messi have resurfaced. The comments are not new; Ronaldo made them in February 2025 in an interview with Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre.
Describing his relationship with Messi, Ronaldo had said: "Messi and I shared the stage at awards ceremonies for 15 years, and we always got along very well. Once or twice I even translated for him what was being said in English. He has always treated me well, too."

Comparing their rivalry to the duel between Formula 1 legends Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, Ronaldo said: "Ours was a healthy rivalry, like the Senna-Prost rivalry. We motivated each other."
"I am the most complete player"

Also addressing the debate over the best player in the interview, Ronaldo had said: "Whether someone likes Messi, Pelé or Maradona more is a matter of taste, and I respect that. But saying that Cristiano Ronaldo is not a complete player is a lie. I am the most complete player."
Ronaldo has been in the headlines in recent days after being temporarily banned from the Portugal national team for leaving the national team camp. The 41-year-old star plays for Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, while Messi plays for Inter Miami in the United States. Of the pair, whose rivalry is regarded as one of the greatest in football history, Messi has 8 Ballon d'Or awards and Ronaldo has 5.
