The Russian House in Ankara, Russia’s cultural center in the Turkish capital, opened the exhibition “Memory of a Capital: Ankara in the Early Years of the Republic” on Saturday, Oct. 17. The show, billed as a historical photo and archive exhibition, is on display at the Ankara State Fine Arts Gallery, run by Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
It brings together historical video footage and works by Russian painter Yevgeny Lanceray, who visited Ankara in the early 1920s. Together they trace the sweeping changes the city went through in its first years as the capital of the young Republic.

At the opening, students of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, soprano Arina Veryovkina and clarinetist Mikhail Filimontsev, gave a short musical performance.

The exhibition was organized jointly by the Russian House in Ankara and the Association for Cultural Diplomacy and Cooperation.
