Saudi Arabia has created a dedicated visa category for Turkish drivers transporting goods to the country.
For many years, road transport from Turkiye to Saudi Arabia was suspended due to conflicts in the Middle East. Following developments in Iraq and Syria, the opening of transit routes has once again made it possible for companies to reach the Saudi market.
Turkiye conducted high-level talks to enable firms to transport goods to Saudi Arabia. Issues related to transportation, notably driver visas, were discussed. Following these talks, Saudi Arabia has taken a new step regarding driver visas.
Under the new arrangement, a separate visa category has been introduced for professional drivers engaged in road haulage. The multiple-entry road transport visa will cost 300 Saudi Riyals (approximately 3,800 Turkish Lira), while the single-entry transit transport visa will be free of charge.
For transit hauls, the permitted length of stay in the country is four days. Turkiye, however, is requesting this period be extended to 15 days, citing Saudi Arabia's vast geography and the need for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Another outstanding request is to bring the fees paid to intermediary companies for visa procurement down to reasonable levels.
