An engine failure occurred on the 274-meter-long Zephyr Prosper tanker sailing from Russia to İzmit in the Çanakkale Strait. Upon the ship captain's notification of the situation to the Çanakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services, the tugs Kurtarma-10, Kurtarma-18, and Kurtarma-20 belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the area.
While other ships were informed via radio, the strait was temporarily closed to two-way ship traffic. The faulty tanker was towed and anchored at the Şevketiye Anchorage with the assistance of tugs and a pilot captain. After the rescue operation was completed, the ship traffic in the strait was reopened to two-way traffic.
