In Meydân-ı Vardak, the use of smartphones by teachers and education staff has been banned during both official and unofficial hours. The ban is set to come into effect starting tomorrow.
An education worker in the province confirmed the decision in a voice message sent to schools, stating that the implementation will begin with the start of the new year. The message emphasized that smartphone use is prohibited under all circumstances.
The messenger also noted that employees using smartphones during official or unofficial hours will be referred to a military court. Staff were urged to comply with the decision to avoid disputes.
About two weeks ago, Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada reportedly gave verbal instructions to military personnel and civilian workers not to use smartphones. The measure in Meydân-ı Vardak appears to be an extension of this directive into the provinces.
Recently, videos have circulated showing some phones belonging to Taliban members being collected and destroyed. Additionally, reports have emerged from some provinces that government employees and teachers have been asked to hand over their phones to their institutions for monitoring compliance with the decision.
Extensive restrictions on media and public spaces in Afghanistan have already severely limited access to independent information. This latest decision indicates an even tighter control over teachers and public employees.
