Dozens of Palestinians in Gaza city organized a solidarity action in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross center to support Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. The demonstration was held to draw attention to the conditions in detention centers and to demand international intervention regarding the detainees. Former detainees, representatives of Palestinian groups, activists, and relatives of detainees participated in the action. Participants carried photos of the detainees and displayed banners calling for the world to take action on this issue. Protesters also carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans demanding the release of the detainees. The action emphasized that the situation of the prisoners remains a fundamental agenda for Palestinians even as the war continues in the Gaza Strip. Abdel-Moati Abdel-Rabbu, a former detainee, stated that weekly solidarity meetings are held every Monday in front of the Red Cross center in Gaza to support the detainees. Abdel-Rabbu claimed that an unprecedented campaign of repression is being carried out in Israeli prisons. According to Abdel-Rabbu, female detainees are subjected to humiliating body searches, sleep deprivation, and restrictions affecting access to food and health services. He expressed that each female and male detainee has a painful story. The action stood out as a new solidarity meeting demonstrating that the issue of detainees remains alive in Gaza under the shadow of war. Participants argued that detention conditions need to be brought to the international agenda.
