South Korean President Lee Jae Myung emphasized that both workers' rights and company management rights should be equally respected before a possible strike starting this week at Samsung Electronics. Although Lee did not directly mention Samsung or the union, his statements before the final wage talks between the company and worker representatives drew attention. In a post on the social media platform X, he expressed that South Korea's liberal democratic and market economy system requires the protection of both worker and employer rights together. Lee said, "Workers should receive fair compensation for their labor, and shareholders who take risks and losses should receive their rightful share of company profits." He added that the constitution guarantees fundamental rights but these rights can be limited for public benefit. Management of Samsung Electronics and union representatives will hold the second round of mediation talks at the National Labor Relations Commission before the union's 18-day strike starting Thursday. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok welcomed the resumption of talks and warned that if negotiations fail, the government may resort to urgent arbitration.
