South Korean President Lee Jae Myung traveled to France for a four-day visit during which he will hold a summit meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Lee and Macron are expected to discuss ways to advance cooperation in security, the economy and other areas. Yonhap, citing an unnamed official from the South Korean Presidential Office, reported that cooperation on nuclear power plants and the deployment of troops to the Strait of Hormuz could also be raised during the talks.
Program to take place in Nice and Paris
During the first part of his visit to France, Lee will travel to Nice to attend the Lumière Cinema's Future Summit near Saint-Paul-de-Vence. He will then head to Paris for a two-day state visit beginning Tuesday.
Lee's Paris program includes a private lunch with Macron, a summit meeting and a dinner hosted by the French president. Lee will also attend a business roundtable involving 20 companies from the two countries.
Emphasis on strategic partnership
The visit follows Macron's trip to South Korea in April. The two countries are marking the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
South Korean National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said the visit is expected to give concrete shape to the scope of the "global strategic partnership" established during Macron's visit to South Korea in April. Wi said the partnership aims to advance bilateral cooperation in areas including security, the economy and exchanges between the two peoples.
