The Sudan Army announced it has captured an area in the Blue Nile state in the southeast of the country, which it says belongs to the People's Movement/North.
In a written statement, the army said forces of the 13th Infantry Brigade conducted a wide-ranging sweep operation in the Kisan district and entered the 'Al-Bar' area, securing control. The statement noted that various weapons and military equipment were seized and a number of individuals described as rebels were captured during the operation.
Clashes in the region
The Sudan Army controls a large part of the Blue Nile state bordering Ethiopia. The People's Movement/North has been fighting the Sudanese government since 2011, demanding autonomy in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
For nearly two months, violent clashes have intensified in Blue Nile state between the army, the Rapid Support Forces, and the People's Movement/North. These clashes have displaced thousands of people from various parts of the state.
Drone downed in North Darfur
In a separate development, the Sudan Army reported downing an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle in North Darfur state.
The army announced that its air defense systems shot down an 'FH-95' type drone north of the city of Tawisha on Tuesday morning. There has been no statement yet from the Rapid Support Forces or its ally, the People's Movement/North, regarding the incident.
The general situation in the country
The Rapid Support Forces hold control over the five Darfur states in western Sudan. The army maintains its dominance in most other states, including the capital Khartoum.
The war that began between the Sudan Army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023 has claimed tens of thousands of lives. The conflict has displaced more than 13 million people and, according to United Nations and international reports, led to one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
