The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs continues its work to host talks on the implementation of the agreement signed between the US and Iran. The Ministry reported that it has created an environment ensuring confidentiality and reliability in Bürgenstock, where the talks are planned to take place.
Preparations for Talks Continue
A written statement from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said, "Switzerland continues to provide a confidential and secure environment in Bürgenstock to contribute to talks regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran."
The statement noted that diplomats from various countries currently present there are striving to maintain dialogue, while adding that no further information could be provided about the talks or participants due to confidentiality.
Scheduled Meeting Canceled
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs announced that a meeting planned between US and Iranian representatives in Bürgenstock yesterday was canceled. The Ministry stated, "Meetings in Bürgenstock will not take place as scheduled today. Therefore, the meeting announced yesterday has been canceled."
This announcement came after the White House stated that preparations for technical talks with Iran were ongoing, but US Vice President J. D. Vance's visit to Switzerland was postponed for now.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Bekai had also announced on June 20 that the Iran-US talks planned in Bürgenstock were "postponed to a later date."
Contacts by the Swiss Foreign Minister
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis discussed the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the US and Iran and recent developments in the region with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
US-Iran Agreement
On June 14, Iran and the US announced they had reached a 14-point agreement, negotiated through Pakistan's mediation, which envisages the cessation of military activities and the resolution of issues between the parties through negotiations.
The agreement protocol, referred to as the "Islamabad Memorandum," was signed digitally by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. The agreement includes provisions such as the cessation of military activities in Lebanon, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran.
