An attempted jewelry theft in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood ended after a 17-year-old intervened. Police records state that 21-year-old Yagiz Dogan approached a woman on Brickell Avenue and said he wanted to buy two bracelets from her. The woman handed him the bracelets to examine, but Dogan allegedly took them and ran.
The 17-year-old who witnessed the incident immediately chased the suspect. He caught up with Dogan shortly afterward, and a scuffle followed. Police records say Dogan sprayed the teenager with pepper spray. Despite this, the teenager did not back off, brought the suspect to the ground and prevented him from fleeing until police arrived. Officers who reached the scene detained Dogan. The two bracelets, identified as belonging to the woman, were found in the suspect’s bag and returned to her.
NBC 6 South Florida reported that police are also investigating whether Dogan is connected to another incident in the Brickell area carried out using a similar method.
