TRT announced that the film ‘Kesilmiş Bir Ağaç Gibi’ will represent Turkey in the Best International Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in March 2027.
The film, which won the TRT Co-Production Award in 2019 during its development, premiered worldwide at the 62nd Antalya Film Festival in October 2025. It later screened at the 13th Boğaziçi Film Festival and the 36th Ankara Film Festival, winning the Best Editing Award at Boğaziçi.
The film centers on 70-year-old retired civil engineer Refik, who offers financial help to his Syrian caregiver, Nesrin, so she can travel to Europe with her children. At the same time, the film depicts the family confrontations and personal challenges faced by Refik’s children, İhsan and Nalan.
