US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held closed-door talks at the White House on September 24, a meeting Trump described to reporters as “great.”
According to Xinhua, Xi called on the United States and Iran to return to dialogue to end their war. He voiced support for a return to the framework deal agreed in Islamabad in June and hoped for a comprehensive agreement that includes the nuclear issue.
Turning to Taiwan, Xi asked Washington to oppose “Taiwan independence” and to handle the issue “prudently,” stressing that Beijing’s position on national unity and territorial integrity is “crystal clear.”
The two countries also agreed during the visit to extend their trade truce until January 2027.
The three-day trip is Xi’s first state visit to the United States in more than a decade, and a state dinner in his honor was planned for the evening.
