US President Donald Trump made striking statements about the tension with Iran in an interview with Fox News. Trump said that the US would take over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
When the host asked about Iran's stance on the strait, Trump said, "We are taking over the strait. They have nothing."
The US President stated that they would continue to hit Iran "very hard," adding, "We will hold the strait. We will probably run it. We will be the guardians of the strait."
They will receive payment for 'guarding' Hormuz
Trump claimed they are demanding payment for protecting the Strait of Hormuz. "Unlike what we have done for many years, we cannot be expected to do this for free. We have protected the strait for over 50 years and never received any money. They took all the money," he said.
Trump added that they had "protected the strait in vain" during this process.
Trump, claiming they had previously reached an agreement with Iran but that Tehran broke the deal, said, "Yesterday there was an 11-hour meeting. The deal was done but then they broke it. They always break it. We made 10 deals with these people."
Targeting former presidents, Trump argued that previous presidents, including Barack Obama, had allowed the Tehran administration to do what it did for 47 years. Trump also added that Iran "got nothing" from him.
