U.S. President Donald Trump said he had reached a critical decision point over the ongoing war with Iran and warned that “very big developments” would occur in the near future if Tehran did not change its stance.
Speaking in a television interview, Trump said his options regarding Iran included completely destroying the country, allowing its economy to collapse or reaching an agreement. He reiterated his tough stance toward Iran, saying, “They better behave better.”
Open to the possibility of diplomatic talks
Responding to a question about the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said he would “probably be open” to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly is being held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from September 18 to 28. The general debate is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 28.

Regional tensions and contact with the Houthis
Assessing other conflicts in the region, Trump said Washington was in constant communication with the Houthis in Yemen following recent ballistic missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. He claimed that the Houthis had agreed to avoid clashing with U.S. forces.
Trump had previously claimed that the war with Iran would end after the midterm elections in November.
