The joint military exercise 'Triple Eagle Training' involving the air forces of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Egypt has begun. The Ministry of National Defense announced that the exercise is being held between June 22 and July 3, 2026.
The ministry stated: "Through training programs, our operational capabilities are being strengthened, and new techniques, tactics and methods for joint air operations are being implemented."
Exercise scope revised
Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Zeki Aktürk shared details about the exercise at a press conference in Ankara. Aktürk stated that the 'Triple Eagle Training' is a modified version of the 'Anatolian Eagle 2026 International Training'.
Aktürk said that the Anatolian Eagle 2026 training was planned with broader international participation, but the plan was revised considering current geopolitical developments and the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit to be held in Turkey on July 7-8, 2026. He noted that after the plan change, the training was conducted under the name 'Triple Eagle' with the participation of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Egypt.
Participation details
Aktürk announced that the Azerbaijani Air Force participated with two Su-25 fighter jets and the Egyptian Air Force with five F-16 fighter jets.
Egyptian Armed Forces Spokesperson Garib Abdelhafiz also reported in a written statement that multi-role fighter jets belonging to Egypt, Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as a NATO-affiliated early warning aircraft, participated in the training.
Abdelhafiz stated that the training activities began with a series of theoretical lessons aimed at unifying combat concepts and sharing training experiences among the participating elements. He expressed that within the scope of the training, numerous joint flight sorties are expected to be conducted to improve the skills of the participating forces and ensure they carry out assigned tasks effectively and competently.
The Egyptian army emphasized that the exercise took place within the framework of strengthening military cooperation relations between the Egyptian and Turkish armed forces.
