Turkey's defense industry exports have surpassed a historic threshold. Haluk Görgün, head of the Defense Industry Agency, shared the sector's latest figures during a speech at an event in Bursa.
Görgün stated that defense industry exports, which stood at only $250 million in 2002, closed at approximately $11 billion as of last year. Drawing attention to this striking growth, Görgün said, "Today, we achieve in just one week what we used to export in an entire year 20 years ago."
Görgün emphasized that the domestic production rate in the sector has exceeded 80 percent and noted that Turkish defense industry products are exported to more than 180 countries.
Görgün shared the following data on the sector's current capacity: "Today, we have a strong and broad ecosystem consisting of more than 4,500 companies, over 1,400 projects, and over 100,000 employees, and we are moving forward with determination."
