Four civil society organizations from Türkiye continue their humanitarian aid efforts for Lebanon, which is facing Israeli attacks and a deep economic crisis. Through cooperation led by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation with the Sadakataşı Association, the Orphans Foundation and the Children of the Earth Association, supplies worth TL 1.2 billion have been delivered to the region since October 7, 2023.
Scope of the aid
A total of 205 containers of in-kind aid reached Lebanon aboard five separate ships sent by sea. The containers included food, hygiene products, beds, blankets and essential supplies. In addition, 288 tonnes of frozen meat from animals slaughtered during Eid al-Adha were brought to the Port of Beirut. The meat is set to be distributed to more than 800,000 people across the country, particularly in refugee camps and among displaced families.
The humanitarian situation in Lebanon
More than 4,300 civilians have been killed and over 12,000 Lebanese have been injured in Israeli attacks over the past 1.5 years. Thousands of buildings and public spaces in southern Lebanon have been completely destroyed, while more than 1.2 million people have been forced to move to the north of the country. Against the backdrop of a humanitarian crisis deepened by the economic downturn, aid from Turkish NGOs has offered hope to millions of Lebanese families.
