National wrestler Ahmet Duman, who won the Mediterranean Games in August, is continuing his preparations in Kastamonu for the Senior World Wrestling Championships, which will be held in Kazakhstan from October 25 to November 1.
Training with his teammates at the camp led by Soner Demirtas, technical director of the Turkish Freestyle Wrestling National Team, Duman said preparations were going well.
He took up wrestling after his older brother
Duman, 26, from Tokat's Erbaa district, said he took up wrestling after his older brother began the sport. He said his brother started attending training sessions after a new coach arrived in Erbaa, and that he later joined him in wrestling. Although his brother quit the sport, Duman said he continued.
Duman also said he had been working as a physical education teacher for three years.
His record includes a world silver medal
The national wrestler won silver at the 2019 European Junior Championships, silver at the 2022 U23 World Championships and silver at the 2024 Senior World Championships. Duman did not achieve the result he wanted at this year's European Championships, but he won the Mediterranean Games.
His goal is the 2028 Olympics
Duman said they began their world championships camp after the Mediterranean Games and that their goal was to win the world title. He said he wanted to prepare in the best possible way and compete at the event in Kazakhstan.
Competing in the 65-kilogram category, Duman said the weight class was an Olympic category and noted that the tournament offering Olympic qualification would be held in 2027. The national wrestler aims to secure qualification at the 2027 World Championships and compete in the 2028 Olympics.
