Türkiye’s women aim to retain European volleyball title in 2026
Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team will compete in the 2026 European Championship, held from August 21 to September 6 in Istanbul, Brno, Baku and Gothenburg. The team aims to defend the European title it won in 2023.
The 34th edition of the Women’s European Volleyball Championship will be held across four host countries, including Türkiye. The group matches and finals will be played in Istanbul.
Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team aims to win the European title by making use of its home-court advantage. The national team won the trophy by defeating Serbia 3-2 in the final of the tournament held in Belgium in 2023.
Targeting a repeat of the 2023 success
As in 2023, Türkiye aims to finish at the top of both the Volleyball Nations League and the European Championship in 2026. The national team began the summer of 2026 with a Volleyball Nations League victory.
If Türkiye wins the European Championship, the team will have won both the Volleyball Nations League and the European Championship in the same year, as it did in 2023.
Medals in the last four championships
Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team has won a medal in each of its last four European Championships. Türkiye won bronze medals in 2017 and 2021, a silver medal in 2019 and gold in 2023.
The national team has also reached at least the semifinals in each of the last five European Championships. Türkiye’s total medal haul in the history of the championship has reached six, comprising one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
Türkiye to make its 17th appearance
Türkiye first participated in the championship, which was held in Romania in 1963, and will compete in the Women’s European Volleyball Championship for the 17th time at the 2026 tournament.
Türkiye also took part in the 1967, 1981, 1989, 1995, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023 tournaments. The national team has qualified for all 12 editions held since 2003.
Türkiye’s rise began with a silver medal after reaching the final of the European Championship held in Ankara in 2003. Türkiye had participated in the tournament four times before 2003; after 2003, it won bronze medals in 2011, 2017 and 2021, silver in 2019 and gold in 2023.
