Türkiye's women's national volleyball team defeated Hungary 3-0 in their third Group A match at the Trendyol 2026 Women's European Volleyball Championship, making it three wins from three matches in the tournament.
The first set of the match at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall began with errors from both sides and fiercely contested rallies. After Hungary took an 18-16 lead, head coach Daniele Santarelli called a timeout.
Türkiye leveled the score at 21-21 after a spiking error by Bozoki-Szedmak and then made an impact during Vargas' service rotation. Türkiye won the set 26-24 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Türkiye dominates the second and third sets
The red-and-white team took control of the second set through Vargas' attacking play, winning it 25-21 to extend its advantage to 2-0.
In the third set, Türkiye forced Hungary to call a timeout after taking a 10-7 lead. The national team did not allow its opponent to recover after the timeout, proving particularly effective at the net and winning the set 25-14 to complete a 3-0 victory.
Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ and Turkish National Paralympic Committee President Murat Aksu also watched the match from the stands.
Santarelli: We had too many ups and downs
Head coach Daniele Santarelli said after the match that he was not completely satisfied with his team's performance. Santarelli said they had approached the match incorrectly and that he expected more from his players, adding that such ups and downs are normal in long tournaments.
Santarelli said the national team plays very well when motivated, but can struggle against teams whose level is not far from its own. He said the problems seen against Hungary needed to be corrected and that they had been working on this issue for a long time.
