The high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the UN Alliance of Civilizations was held in New York. Miguel Angel Moratinos, the UN Alliance of Civilizations’ High Representative, chaired the meeting.

Emphasis on cultural diversity and dialogue
Gümrükçü, a co-sponsor of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, said cultural diversity should be seen as a source of strength rather than a threat. He underscored the importance of dialogue among civilizations in the face of rising intolerance and polarization.

TÜRKSOY Secretary-General Raev said cultural diplomacy was not merely a complementary element in international relations but also one of the strongest tools of preventive diplomacy.
Raev said the world was facing serious challenges, including wars, forced migration, hate speech and social polarization. He stressed the importance of protecting cultural heritage and building mutual trust among communities for lasting peace.
Humanitarian tragedy in Palestine highlighted
Raev said every war destroys not only human lives but also the memory of cities, holy sites, historical monuments and the civilizational heritage built over generations. He said the humanitarian tragedy in Palestine had once again reminded the world that protecting human life and cultural heritage was a shared responsibility of all humanity.

Raev said the shared cultural heritage of the Turkic world was integrated with humanity’s universal values. He said TÜRKSOY had been working for more than 30 years to protect, preserve and promote the shared cultural heritage of Turkic peoples worldwide, adding that the organization was ready to share its experience in cultural diplomacy with the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
New cultural projects proposed
Raev said TÜRKSOY and the UN Alliance of Civilizations could develop new projects involving youth exchanges, cultural dialogue programs, literary and artistic gatherings, the protection of shared cultural heritage and preventive diplomacy through culture.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Rafiyev said the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, to be held in Baku, would make an important contribution to the work of the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
Kazakh First Deputy Foreign Minister Aşıkbayev stressed the importance of strengthening interfaith harmony and promoting a culture of peaceful coexistence. Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Hacıyev, highlighted the role of dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to international law in preventing conflicts and said they were ready to develop cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
